ICC and CULC/CBUC Team Up on a Pilot Program to reach new Canadian Citizens

Following a very informative presentation at the Spring CULC/CBUC meeting by CEO of the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, Gillian Hewitt-Smith, the two organizations have agreed upon a six month pilot in three communities to act as distribution and information points for the Cultural Access Pass that ICC offers new Canadian Citizens in many urban areas across Canada. As part of the pilot the ICC will specifically promote the value of the library and the availability of library cards.

The three pilot communities that ICC identified, and the libraries agreed, to be of high interest and concentration are Markham (ON), Burnaby (BC) and Vaughan (ON).

The libraries are working with ICC on the mechanics. There will be initial feedback to the members at the November meeting. The pilot is expected to take six months. The goal is to prove the concept and to offer it to more communities across Canada.
